A propane tank can explode if it is exposed to high temperatures for an extended period of time. When a propane tank is heated, the pressure inside the tank increases. If the pressure gets too high, the tank can burst.
A propane tank can also explode if it is punctured. If a propane tank is punctured, the gas inside the tank can escape and ignite. The resulting explosion can be very dangerous.

Can I Leave a Propane Tank in My Car?
Most people are aware that you shouldn’t leave a propane tank in a hot car. However, many don’t know the reasons why.
Leaving a propane tank in a hot car can be extremely dangerous. The heat can cause the tank to rupture, leading to a fire or explosion. Even if the tank doesn’t rupture, the heat can cause the pressure inside the tank to build up, leading to a dangerous situation.
If you must leave a propane tank in your car, be sure to turn off the valve and store it in a cool, dry place.
Can I leave a propane gas tank outside?
- Make sure that the propane tank is turned off and that there is no gas left in it
- Disconnect the tank from any appliances or other devices that it may be connected to
- Open all of the valves on the tank so that any remaining gas can escape
- Place the tank in a well-ventilated area away from any ignition sources such as flames, sparks, or heaters
- Leave the tank in this position for at least an hour to allow all of the gas to dissipate before moving it again
